Easy, Flippah!

Dan suggested a list of The Most Overplayed Songs in Bars That Make Flipperhead* Girls Squeal and Dance.

I’d like to create this list. Please comment with nominations. The rules are (if you have your own list, you can make your own rules):

1. They can’t just be bad songs, but songs people actually attempt to dance to.

2. These dancers are usually dyed dumb and start grabbing their girlfriends to go on the dance floor with them the minute they hear the first note.

3. Number 2 usually coincides with lots of screaming which, if are within 10 feet, will make your ears bleed.

4. Normally, these songs are heard in a not-quite-a-club bar. You know the ones. They have to move the tables and chairs away so that these girls can dance in a circle and swig their wide-mouth Coors Lights while some creepy guy tries to rub up against them. I will admit that I have spent a lot of tiem in such places, so I know what I’m talking about.

5. Songs you just sing along to do not count, but songs that these girls scream the lyrics to while pretending to dance get special consideration.

I’ve added a few and used some from Dan’s above mentioned post. Current nominees are, in no particular order:

The Flipperhead List
You Shook Me – AC/DC
Grease Lightning – Grease Soundtrack
Summer Nights – Grease Soundtrack
I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor
Brown Eyed Girl – Van Morrison
Celebration – Kool and the Gang
We Are Family – Sister Sledge
Conga – Miami Sound Machine
Nasty Boys – Janet Jackson
Electric Slide – Marcia Griffiths
Dancing Queen – Abba
Oh What A Night – Frankie Valli
Party Train – Gap Band
Turn The Beat Around – Gloria Estefan
I Want You To Want Me – Cheap Trick
Paradise By The Dashboard Light – Meatloaf Worst. Song. Ever.
1999 – Prince
Margaritaville – Jimmy Buffett
I Melt With You – English Beat
Blister In The Sun - Violent Femmes
Walking On Sunshine – Katrina and the Waves
Last Dance – Donna Summer
YMCA - Village People

Man, that’s long already – and I’m only getting started!

  1. Dan says

Bizarre Love Triangle – New Order

  2. Lux says

Son of a Preacher Man – Dusty Springfield
    Respect – Aretha Franklin
    It’s Raining Men – Weathergirls
    Superfreak – Rick James
    Brick House – Commodores
    Tainted Love – Soft Cell

(this looks like a wedding playlist)

  3. Jim says

    “Brick House”.

Yeash. She’s a brick house? Yeah, that explains why she’s about 28′x40′ in size.

  4. Phoebe says

Um, hello? Livin’ on a Prayer — Bon Jovi. Totally Flipperhead. But maybe that was just a B.C. thing.

  5. Chris says

“I Melt With You” is by Modern English. English Beat’s Flipperhead song is “Tenderness” (an overplayed, mediocre song that is far below the normal high standards of this great, underrated band).

  6. Dan says

I thought ‘Tenderness’ was General Public? Don’t know how I missed the Modern English error though.

  7. Chris says

Yse, you’re right…it is General Public. I guess the English Beat never made any bad music after all (as I hum “Save It For Later” to myself).

  8. Rachel Price says

i always remember the music of Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine. great music!.`::
