…Newark, New Jersey.
Some of you already heard, some have not. So, we didn’t get another international post (goodbye Panama dreams) and we didn’t get my coveted Seattle. We got Newark, NJ. We will be there mid-autumn after a 30-day home leave in September-ish.
We have to find a house to rent and buy furniture, because we don’t own any, and work out daycares and such. If you know anything about the Newark area, please feel free to comment or send me an email at heather(at)thelooking-glass(dot)com. We need a neighborhood that is safe, affordable and reasonably convenient (within a one hour commute to Newark and within 10 minutes of a grocery store, corner stores preferably walkable, but let’s not get picky). We may also consider Eastern PA if it’s doable within the above mentioned parameters.
On the downside, I’ve been to Elizabeth and :shudder:. On the upside, I’ve been to Cape May and :sweet:.

We can’t wait to see you guys, and introduce Madeleine to the girls.
Ooooh, it’s ages since I’ve visited and now I’ve got heaps of catch up reading to do… Thanks for the postcard, it cracked my youngest up! I’ve been writing you another letter and I’m just about to post it off…I’ve managed to lose your address though! Would you mind emailing it to me?
Off now to check out all the photo’s, jusx
Heather,
Two nice areas you might want to look at are Montclair and Westfield. I live quite a bit further south myself, but I know that people like Montclair because there are things to actually walk to, plus good schools and some amount of cultural stuff. Westfield is nicely suburban and is about the same distance from Newark, but it has a nice downtown area.
I grew up in New York and I NEVER thought I’d live in NJ, but one thing led to another and we’ve been here for over 20 years and I don’t think I’d leave. One bad thing – the taxes are astronomical.
